EDUCATION & PROGRAM DESIGN

Our EVOLVEMENT Leadership Program is a comprehensive 14-week initiative thoughtfully crafted for teachers and education professionals working with junior and high school adolescents aged 13-18. Our program seamlessly integrates into the school schedule, providing three one-hour weekly sessions designed to cater to the needs of educators. These sessions are expertly delivered by our dedicated Sanare staff members, offering fun and engaging sessions throughout the program.

At its core, the EVOLVEMENT Leadership Program is devoted to nurturing the development of social and emotional intelligence while sharpening the leadership skills of both teachers and their students. Participants will embark on a transformative journey that involves identifying and executing community-based projects, instilling a deep sense of purpose and responsibility, which can be seamlessly integrated into your educational approach.

Our program is firmly grounded in several key approaches and theories:

PRIMARY PREVENTION

Primary prevention is the cornerstone of our mission, aiming to proactively combat violence by addressing the underlying norms, attitudes, and behaviours perpetuating it. The Sanare Centre is dedicated to supporting those who have experienced violence and trauma, with a strong commitment to primary prevention initiatives. The EvolveMENt Leadership Program is a vital form of primary prevention by engaging young men in activities that promote positive gender norms, reshape perceptions of masculinity, and encourage non-violent relationships.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Drawing inspiration from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), a leading authority on evidence based SEL practices, our program places a strong emphasis on SEL. CASEL defines SEL as "the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions." SEL encompasses five core competencies essential for success in various life domains: home, school, work, and community. These competencies develop and evolve throughout one's lifetime, offering valuable skills and insights for personal growth and community impact.

TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE

Trauma-informed practice (TIP) represents an approach to delivering programs and services that acknowledges and considers the substantial impact trauma can have on the physical and emotional well-being of individuals and families and their interactions with mental health services and professionals. TIP operates without the necessity of individuals disclosing their traumatic experiences; instead, it adopts a universal approach that presumes participants may have histories of trauma. Its primary goal is to prevent re-traumatization and promote a safe environment.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

EvolveMENt Leadership is proud to participate in this movement promoting positive youth development. Our program shares several key features with other world-renowned initiatives, all aimed at nurturing every young person's potential.

We understand that the journey through adolescence can be challenging, and we are here to provide the guidance, mentorship, and resources needed to help young individuals not just navigate these challenges but emerge as leaders. Our program strives to create a supportive and productive environment where youth can thrive, develop essential life skills, and build the foundation for a successful future.

LEADERSHIP

Diverging from adult leadership, youth leadership takes a unique approach, emphasizing how young individuals can delve into, learn, and encounter leadership. This involves equipping young people for forthcoming leadership roles via hands-on learning experiences and gaining access to opportunities that allow them to employ their leadership abilities in profound and genuine ways. The definitions of youth leadership found in various sources differ, underscoring the broad spectrum of leadership styles and emphasizing the significance of considering the specific context when defining leadership and crafting leadership programs tailored to youth.
